Mānana Island, also known as Rabbit Island, is an uninhabited islet situated 0.75 mi (0.65 nmi; 1.21 km) off Kaupō Beach, near Makapuʻu at the eastern end of Oʻahu in the Hawaiian Islands. Named for its resemblance to a buoyant rabbit’s head when viewed from the shore, it once hosted a colony of introduced rabbits established in the 1880s by John Adams Cummins. The rabbits were later eradicated due to their adverse impact on the native ecosystem, particularly endangering seabird breeding areas. Today, Mānana Island stands as a testament to the delicate balance of nature and the importance of conservation efforts.
